Why is the audio on my computer failing?
Okay, so I just put together a new desktop with Windows XP. Everything works perfectly other than the fact that my audio doesn’t work. When I go to control panel –> sounds and audio devices, everything is grayed out, including sound playback and sound recording drop downs, and it says there is no audio device.
I am certain that the computer has a sound card with Legacy Audio Drivers and the audio codecs.
I have tried wireless headphones, speakers, and wired headphones. None work.
I also entered setup and made sure the audio device BIOS was enabled.
Any ideas on how to get the audio working so that I can at least listen to music and movies?
No Sound on my xp pc?
okey i recently reformated my computer its 6 year old or so acer i think didnt change the operating systems or anything and installed all the same programs again. Using windows xp duno if it can handle the upgrade to anything better, anyway everything was working for the 1st few days, i downloaded all the updates and everything, (wait i take that back all 3 of my dvd,cd drives decided to die on me but thats not the problem here i can just get new ones)
My sound was working perfectly i was using RCA WHP151 Wireless headphones i have been using these for a while, so dumb me who dosent want everything working perfectly decides to plug in my 100 year old piece of junk speakers, i have Realtek AC97 and the sound card is built in. anyway my speakers have sound for about 5 seconds then just die out, so i decide time to toss em out, then plug my wireless headphones back in and there was a buzzing noise nothing else, (the next day the buzzing stoped in its place was just silence or static. Using other speakers or headphones produces the same results, muting or unmuting does not help, uninstalling my sound drivers and reinstalling does not help. Anyone got a clue whats going on or do i have to buy a acuall sound card.
~note i did plug in my speakers like this about a year ago and it ******* up my sound as well (guess i didnt learn my lesson) anyway the last time i fixed the prob by pluging the headphones into a different port the black speaker out and the pink mic in plugs worked for the best sound at that time even tho one isnt even for speakers and the black plug is supposed to be turned off, All of the plugs produce the same results absolutly new sound however if i keeps switching plugs or leave the speaker only half pushed into a plug i can hear static on the headphones.
Dont bother saying stuff like is ur mike muted or similar things becasue i do have common sence. but mabe theres a option sumwhere in system32 or msconfig that got turned off by acident not sure i dont mess around in there unless i have a step by step walkthrough.
I sud just reformat again but my disk drives are dead…. / getting a sound card is nearly out of it as well because theres no room left in the acuall pc for one id have to take out sumthing like the usless internal wireless router that barely gets a signal
its fixed now i decided hell with it and got a new sound card
is my computer specs above average?

Which one is better for gaming and other CPU expensive stuff? The price difference is 0. And should i get the Killer Xeno Pro thingy? It cost almost 0 and does it improve Frame rate that much? Is it worth it?
Please take a look at the specs, not just the brand.
How do I get sound from my Xbox 360 to my PC speakers?
My sound card has green, red and white ports in it. Can I just plug in the red and white cables from the HD AV cable, keep the speakers plugged in, and expect it to work? Thanks.
